Expert Electric Vehicle Service

Ford EV parts

Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular at Woodhouse Ford of Omaha – and consequently, Ford service for EVs is more important than ever. What exactly does EV service involve? Let’s take a look.

Standard EV Services

One of the many benefits of owning a Ford electric car is that you’ll spend less on service than you would with gas-powered car. The reason for this is that EVs have fewer parts – and most significantly, no combustion engine to maintain. What remains are components such as the cabin air filter and the car’s high-efficiency particulate air filter, which only need to be checked every couple of years.

Moreover, the brake fluid and brake calipers also require less frequent inspection because the EV brake system lasts longer than the brakes in a traditional automobile. The reason for this is regenerative braking: a process that collects the deceleration energy produced by the car and distributes it to the battery.

This helps reduce brake pad and disc wear. Regarding the battery in your EV car, with oversight from our Ford parts and service experts it should last 100,000 – 200,000 miles.

Of course, EVs do have some parts in common with gas-powered vehicles. For example, the tires, lights, and wipers. All of these require the same level and frequency of maintenance.

Battery Charging

Every EV sold at Woodhouse Ford of Omaha has a battery that must be charged periodically. There are three charging levels available to owners. Level 1 is through a standard household outlet that replenishes around two to five miles of driving range per hour.

Unfortunately, though this is okay for plugin hybrid vehicles, it isn’t a match with 100 percent EVs. On the flipside, Level 2 charging is great for EVs. Plus, a Level 2 charger can be installed in your home to recharge your car overnight or over the course of a day.

Some of our customers might be familiar with “fast chargers”. These are Level 3 chargers exclusively available on highways. You’ll get 60 to 80 miles of range in just 20 minutes from these chargers, making them ideal for road trippers.
